Kentucky supports math achievement with elementary coaches, screeners, parental notification and high-quality instructional materials. Expanding these efforts to all K-8 educators and students could improve consistency, opportunity and algebra readiness.

4 Strands of Math Proficiency

To become proficient in math, students need to develop mathematical proficiency which is a combination of real-world problem-solving skills, procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and productive dispositions.

Math Knowledge & Skills

In K-8 students are building math knowledge in: number and operations, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics & Data.

Supports for Educators

Educator Preparation Programs (EPP) Alignment

EPP required math coursework not aligned with all National Math Panel recommendations including: 4 Strands of Math Proficiency in math knowledge & skills or lacks evidence-based methods.

Elementary Math Coaches
