Arkansas promotes student success in advanced math by requiring students to complete Algebra I. To support achievement, the state could guarantee access to advanced math and ensure students finish Algebra I by the end of grade 9.
Critical to all principles are the 4 Strands of Math Proficiency in Math Knowledge & Skills.
4 Strands of Math Proficiency
To become proficient in math, students need to develop mathematical proficiency which is a combination of real-world problem-solving skills, procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and productive dispositions.

In K-8 students are building math knowledge in: number and operations, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics & Data.

Elementary Math Coaches
Consider policy where math coaches are trained in evidence-based pedagogy, the 4 Strands of Math Proficiency, provide data driven PD & coaching & assigned to each elementary school.

Consider policy where state-adopted math PD is required for all K-8 educators, builds evidence-based pedagogy & the 4 Strands of Math Proficiency.
